Pre Workout Supplements Can Result in Better Workouts and Energy Boosts

Those who love hitting the gym know they need to maximize their time there. There’s many ways in which you can do this. Most people know about taking supplements after a workout to help with recovery. However, many people still don’t know about taking supplements pre workout. These supplements are designed to provide boosts in a few ways. They want to offer the users a mix of energy to work out strongly and strength to ensure they are pushing themselves. In the end, people may see their workout performance go up, or be able to work out for longer periods of time. Most of the time, a pre-workout supplement will be designed to be taken as a shake via powder + water. This makes it quick to be ingested. Typically the shake is taken between 30 and 60 minutes prior to a workout. This allows it to get into the bloodstream.

Common Supplements Included in Pre Workout Plans

There are quite a few different supplements and compounds that you might find in a pre workout shake or plan. Obviously it will depend on the specific brand you get. Each has their own mix of compounds to try and create the optimal pre workout supplement. Some common ingredients will include:

  • Stimulants - Just like coffee, your pre workout plans will give you a boost. This is what will help in getting the blood vessels to become dilated and more blood flowing throughout the system.
  • BCAA - Most pre workout options are going to have branched chain amino acids. Muscle tissue needs these to grow, so they are a natural choice for a pre-workout shake or plan.
  • Carbs - Carbs get a bad rap in a lot of places. Remember that carbs are energy that can be great if you’re planning an aerobic workout. If your workout is going to be about lifting and muscle work, then you might want to avoid the carbs.
  • Other Amino Acids - There’s a huge number of different amino acids that can be chosen from. Most of those that make up protein are good choices as they will help with new muscle growth.

Benefits of Pre Workout Supplements

There are some obvious benefits of taking pre workout supplements. As mentioned earlier, increased endurance while working out is one of them. If you’re able to work out for a longer period of time, then you’re going to obviously get more benefit from your workout.

The other benefit is in energy and power during a workout. Most pre workout supplements will ensure that they help to increase blood flow across the body. With more blood getting to the muscles, it feels like you’re able to do a lot more with your workout than you would regularly at the same level of effort. It’s that level of effort which is important as it ties into the earlier benefit of having more endurance while you’re working out.

Potential Downsides of Pre Workout Supplements

In some cases there could be some potential side effects of pre workout supplements. However, it’s always going to be specifically about what is within. People who react poorly to coffee will likely have an issue with pre workout supplements. They may feel heart palpitations or get nauseous. Some get headaches. This is also a problem when it comes to working out at night. Since there’s a boost in energy, some people struggle to sleep afterwards. You need to be very careful with the kind of pre workout supplements you take at night.
